Brattleboro Orthodontics Offers FREE SAT Prep, 2008
Brattleboro Orthodontic Specialists' free SAT preparation program is scheduled for three Saturdays in March at Brattleboro Union High School.
Brattleboro Orthodontic Specialists (BOS) funds the Free SAT Prep program as a service to their patients and the community. "There are many ways to be successful in life," asserts Dr. Charles Post of Brattleboro Orthodontics. "But I have found that over a lifetime, a good education can have a tremendous impact." Recognizing the importance of the SAT exam in the college entry process, Dr. Post has been supportive of helping students achieve their best scores. "The students that have taken this course have told me that they enter the test with more confidence, and, in many cases, achieved scores much higher than on SATs they had previously taken," explains Dr. Post.
The program is not designed to teach math and English per se, but rather to help students test well. Inflated scores are not the goal but accurate scores achieved with confidence are emphasized. Any student planning to take the SAT is eligible for the course, although priority is given to high school juniors during the registration process.
Instructors are Mr. Bob Ross, an excellent English teacher at Brattleboro Union High School, and Mr. Gene Whitney, a highly regarded math teacher at Brattleboro Union High School. Both instructors taught the course for the past three years, with excellent response from students. Mr. Ross has been presenting the program for several years in Keene; the 2005 program incorporated the major changes in the English testing format.
Students and/or parents are strongly encouraged to sign up as soon as registration opens in early January. An email address is requested at the time of registration so that updates and reminders can be issued to all participants.
The timing of the program prepares students to take the SAT test on Saturday, May 3. Information on testing dates and locations is available at www.collegeboard.com.
Which of the following can help students on their way to a promising future? a) an excellent education and good grades; b) respectable SAT scores; c) a great smile and a firm handshake; or d) all of the above. In the view of Brattleboro Orthodontic Specialists, the answer is d) all of the above.
Program dates are Saturdays, March 8,15 and 29, 2008 1:30pm4:30pm. Registration BEGINS on Tuesday, January 2, 2008, by emailing SAT Registration or by calling BOS at 802 257-0600. No registrations can be accepted prior to January 2. During January, registration is open to high school JUNIORS only. Starting February 2, students from other grades are welcome to sign up, if space permits.
